Why Sympathy Gifts Vs Cards Or Flowers?

By Chester Mann

While traditional cards or flowers let someone know that you are thinking of them in a time of despair or grief, a sympathy gift also conveys a deeper more meaningful sentiment of personal comfort.

One example of this would be: a co-worker has had an accident and breaks a bone. A get well card or flowers would be a traditional gesture of sympathy. However you know how much they enjoy a good cup of coffee. A gift basket full of assorted coffees and a mug will convey your sympathy and provide extra pleasure and comfort, and make a lasting impression on them.

For those grieving a loss sometimes the most difficult part is when everyone has gone back to their normal lives. Most people are not aware that being supportive to a bereaved person in those times can be even more helpful in the healing process. A sympathy gift can be just the support needed to help in the healing process. It can go a long way toward providing extra comfort and support to help get through the tough, lonely, period following a funeral. Sympathy or bereavement gifts can be put to better use than flowers and cards, which will generally be placed in the garbage after the funeral. Plus a family can often be overwhelmed with the volume of flowers sent to them.

Sometimes it’s not easy to pick out sympathy gifts but it is essential to show that you are thinking about someone and want to make their pain easier.

Though a card and floral arrangement are very appropriate gifts, a special sympathy gift can go beyond to provide comfort and compassion and express a more meaningful, supportive, heartfelt message that shows you took the time to recognize them with a special gift.
